A mortar team in Ukraine demonstrates what-not-do-do by firing a mortar round with an incorrectly placed base plate, as the recoil upends the gun system in a shower of thrown dirt.

To correctly set up the mortar, the base plate needs to lay flat on the ground. It's unclear why these indirect fire infantrymen thought they could lay it at an angle. The first round is normally fired with a max load of charges, to ensure the tube is firing at a high angle with equally high recoil to drive the base plate generally straight down into the ground. This process is called "settling the base plate." This video is what happens when you try to bypass critical procedures.
