Ohio Kidnapping Suspect Tries To Stab Officer With Pen

This security footage from an interview room in Xenia, Ohio, shows the moment Reid Duran tried to stab an officer with a pen. He was being interviewed regarding his attempt to abduct a five-year-old child from a local school.

"He is a man of focus... commitment, sheer will... I once saw him kill three men in a bar with a pencil."

Is of course something that would be said of infamous Baba Yaga, John Wick, and not this guy. Even the officer, who fairly effortlessly fends Duran off, is incredulous. "Are you kidding me right now?" According to Xenia PD, Duran was being questioned voluntarily and, up until the attack, not detained. This explains some of the laxness in security precautions, such as leaving the pen on the desk. While that may have been an overall issue, it certainly wasn't in the moment, as with one good shove Reid goes flying into the door and wall. Much is made, and rightly so, of speed, surprise and violence of action. While I'd like to throw "general competence" into the ring, Reid had none of the four.
