Officer Stuck on Roof of Felon's Vehicle Injured During High-Speed Chase

Body worn camera footage released by the Carroll Police Department captures the moment a felony traffic stop turns into a deadly high-speed chase with Officer Patrick McCarty stuck on the roof of the suspect's vehicle. The officer is eventually thrown from the roof of the vehicle when the suspect, 29-year-old Dennis James Guider Jr drove through a ditch.

That same ditch disabled the pursuing vehicle which was attempting to get in front of Guider's vehicle to get him to stop. Guider's vehicle ceased to function about a mile away from the incident where he was arrested.

Officer McCarty suffered a broken vertebrae, which took him a full year to recover from. Dennis James Guider Jr was sentenced to up to five years in prison after his felony eluding charge was dropped in a plea deal.
