Officer Kills Fleeing Suspect By Accident, Confusing Pistol For Tazer

On April 12, 2021 Brooklyn Center police officers pulled over 20-year-old Daunte Wright for expired registration tags. After running the suspects license, it was found Wright had an outstanding arrest warrant which the officers at the time did not have full disclosure of the information of what the warrant was.


Taking extra precaution's as seen in the video, the officer began cuffing Wright outside the driver side door of the car. It all seemed fine until Officer Kim Potter approached the suspect to retrieve an item from the back of Wright's pocket.


At this time, Wright attempted to break free from both officers grasp to flee the scene. As the first officer struggles to maintain Wright, Officer Potter is calling out to her colleagues she will be taze-ing the suspect. Little did she know, she drew her firearm, and discharged a single round into the suspect.


Wounded, the suspect managed to drive away. The car, speeding away made it only a few blocks before crashing, coming to a halt. While driving away, Wright succumbed to his wounds, and was later pronounced dead.


As a result, there have been ongoing riots throughout the night of April 12th, and into today April 13th. No current news has been released of what will be happening to Officer Potter or any other Brooklyn Center officers.
