Around 0400 hours on April 3rd 2021, officers from the Corvallis Police Department, Oregon responded to the Days Inn hotel on 1113 Northwest 9th Street where a white male was aggressively trying to break into multiple rooms. Upon arriving at the scene, officers were greeted at the front door by the suspect, 32-year-old Jeffrey Appelt.
The responding officer began questioning Appelt asking "what's going on?". Appelt responded with aggression toward the officer immediately, stating "leave me the f%^* alone!", where he then lunged at the officer. Lashing out in more anger, Appelt began chasing the officer through the parking lot, now wielding a knife saying "I'm going to kill you [email protected]#$er. The officer drew his taser, then fired but unfortunately missed. With a knife in his hand, Appelt eventually stopped pursuing the officer and walked back toward the front door of the hotel.
As the initial officer follows Appelt, he finally met back up at the front door where a secondary responding officer can be seen struggling to detain the suspect. Breaking free from the officers, Appelt began charging a third responding officer with his knife still in hand. After being told numerous times to drop the weapon, officers began firing their weapons at Appelt, striking him multiple times.
Appelt was provided medical assistance on the scene until medical transport arrived. The suspect was pronounced deceased on the scene.
