Footage from ongoing protests in Peru shows a demonstrator get shot in the face by a tear gas canister, which knocks him immediately unconscious. The incident occurred in Lima and was recorded by a tourist from the front door of his hotel. The injured man is said to be in serious condition.

Protests have erupted across Peru and a state of emergency has been declared following the impeachment and removal of President José Pedro Castillo Terrones on 7 December 2022. Terrones attempted a self-coup to seize absolute power of Peru by dissolving congress. The demonstrators are mostly in support of the jailed president, and are claiming he is being unjustly usurped by political elites.
