Gnarly footage out of Russia shows a May 2021 incident in which police are in a standoff with a grenade-wielding suspect who would rather blow himself up than be arrested.

The police plead with the man to drop the device, and although their lives are in serious danger, they do not shoot him. The man refuses and activates the grenade, which can be heard as the fuse pops. Seconds later it detonates, sending him to the ground in a bloody mess. The man survived, at least initially, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
