Viewer discretion advised- this compilation and juxtaposition of security camera footage and body cameras, made public by police in Springfield, Illinois, shows a 17-year-old inmate having taken a hostage after firing at personnel inside the Sangamon Detention Center. The agency-provided narration provides an excellent play-by-play of the events, including the fate of the suspect, who does not survive. However, the narration omits that the second responding officer (shown recovering the hostage) is a new recruit, still in training. This is a day that no one at Sangamon is likely to forget anytime soon, especially as investigation is still ongoing as to how the suspect managed to procure a firearm inside a detention facility where personnel are not normally armed.
