(NSFW) Mentally Unstable Man Points Revolver At Cops, Commits Suicide By Police

Just after 6:30 p.m. on May 14, 2021 Indianapolis Metropolitan police officers were dispatched to 3800 block of Red Mill Place, where a suicidal man was firing gun shots up into the air. Prior to arriving, IMPD officers were informed the suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Monolito Ford, had previously expressed suicidal thoughts toward family members.

In the body cam footage provided, we have a first person perspective of the incident, which allows us to see the suicide by police unfold. As first responders arrive at the apartment complex, IMPD officers exit their vehicles with both lethal and less lethal weapons. With knowledge of the suspect being armed, the officers ensured their safety by carrying AR-15's as well as a less lethal shotgun, containing rubber bullets.

As officers make their way to the back side of the apartment complex, they began commanding Ford to drop his firearm. Ford, continuing to approach the officers has his revolver still in hand and refuses to drop it. In the footage, Ford can be heard crying out as he continues to close distance on the officers. One officer can be heard saying "please f%$^ing drop the gun" in a desperate last command.

Moments later, Ford raises his firearm and points it at the officers, where an officer involved shooting occurred. Responding officers rendered medical aid until medical transport arrived to take Ford to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital. Ford later succumbed to his wounds.
