(NSFW) Kentucky Carjacker Picks Undercover Cop, Loses

This footage depicts a carjacker's attempt to steal a car and/or rob the occupant at gunpoint without knowing that his intended victim is a Kentucky State Police officer. Due to the violent nature of the encounter, viewer discretion is advised.

The bodycam-bearing officer observes a masked, armed individual approaching his car, crossing to the driver's side door. At 0:06, he opens the door first and announces himself as a police officer. This is likely to have offset the would-be carjacker's expectations of the encounter. However, he does not lower his weapon and is fired upon by the officer. He falls to the ground. This exchange happens extremely quickly and is shown at a slowed and zoomed rate to highlight the suspect's weapon. At 0:22, he comments on the officer's radio traffic: "I wasn't going to rob you." At 0:36 seconds, a woman arrives on-scene, ostensibly the suspect's partner. "Did you just shoot my baby daddy?" She adds that her son - their child- is in the car.

The woman was nearby, knew exactly where to come, her partner/the suspect was in possession of a mask and handgun, and ther child was in the car . We don't tend to editorialize here, but these are objective facts- make of them what you will.

Backup arrives at 01:07. The supporting officer removes the irate woman from the scene, and together the officers begin providing medical care. As they work, additional officers arrive on-scene, as does the suspect's apparent brother. His reaction to the incident can be heard over the mic, although he doesn't feature in the footage. The officers begin providing CPR at 03:27, though the suspect did not survive. At 04:11, slowed footage of the gunfire and weapon on the ground are shown, to better explain the incident.
