A critical incident captured by a Santa Ana police officers body worn camera, shows the intense moments officers engaged in a close quartered battle with 26-year-old Christopher Alvarez.

On March 1st, 2020, at approximately 3:14 p.m., an officer was traveling west bound on McFadden Ave in the city of Santa Ana, when a pedestrian flagged him down and reported an armed man was inside an area church. As shown in the body worn footage, one officer engaged in a three minute long battle with the suspect inside the church. Alvarez and the responding officer exchanged rounds, however during the engagement, Alvarez was able to escape out a back door.

Luckily, as Alvarez escaped the rear of the church, additional responding officers intercepted Alvarez and neutralized him. Alvarez was rendered medical aid, but was pronounced deceased on the scene. During a later autopsy, Alvarez suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. In addition, Alvarez had a laundry list of prior criminal charges, such as carrying a loaded firearm, robbery, carjacking, and many others.
