On April 13, 2021, officers from the Garden City Police Department, Idaho, responded to a domestic violence call, which ultimately turned into an officer involved shooting.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers confronted the female subject who was involved in the domestic violence incident, who later stated the male suspect, 58-year-old Thomas Bunde, was drunk and being extremely aggressive. After a brief questioning of the female subject, one officer began knocking on the front door of the trailer. From inside the trailer, Bunde can be heard yelling "I'm putting some pants on", as the officer simply replies "I appreciate that".

Not even a minute after, Bunde swings the door open, draws his firearm and points it directly in the officers face while stating "I'll blow your f***in' head off right now". Within seconds, additional officers began discharging their service weapons, striking Bunde multiple times. Despite live saving measures, Bunde was pronounced deceased at the scene from his gun inflicted injuries.

After a thorough investigation, a statement released by Valley County Prosecutor Brian Naugle ruled that the officers who fired their weapons at Bunde were justified in using lethal force, and his office has declined to file any criminal charges.
