It goes without saying that drones have become and will remain a mainstay of conflicts going forward, having seen ongoing use in Ukraine, Myanmar, Israel/Palestine and other conflicts. Regardless of theater, for the last two years, if you’d seen one drone drop video, you’d seen them all- drone hovers from high altitude, drops bomb down onto target. However, nothing breeds innovation like warfare. These Ukrainian drone operators have devised a new way to address targets under cover or entrenched, or at unexpected angles. By using the drone’s momentum to fling the bomb forward- essentially, dive bomber tactics- the drones can attack through windows or down narrow trenches. Here, we even see drone operators practicing on troops in the open, when traditional drone bombing would have worked. It is unclear whether the inspiration for this technique came from dive bombers or the trademark pitch-up rocket salvos used by aircraft on both sides in Ukraine. However, mitigating and defending against attacking drones just got more complicated.
