(NSFW) Deputies Give Ample Warnings To Suicidal Man Pointing Gun At Them

The Indiana State Police concluded an investigation recently regarding a deadly officer involved shooting that occurred on October 10th, 2021, involving a middle-aged male suspect and the Ripley County Sherriff's Office.


At approximately 0900, deputies from the Ripley County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to a residence for a a domestic violence situation. During the 9-1-1 call, the female caller indicated her ex-boyfriend who she had a restraining order against, appeared at her home, armed with a gun. During their confrontation, the female caller indicated her ex, later identified as 37-year-old Joshua Ebinger, had made threatening comments toward her. Additionally, official police reports have stated that Ebinger told the female subject "They better make sure they kill me, or I'm going to kill one of them", in reference to responding law enforcement officers.


As shown in the body camera footage, multiple deputies attempted de-escalation efforts to prevent further conflict. After numerous commands, and ample time to drop the weapon, two deputies fired their service weapons, striking Mr. Ebinger, fatally wounding him.


In a later toxicology report, Ebinger was twice the legal limit for driving and was violating a no contact order from a previous domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend.
