Knuck If You Buk: HIMARS Destroys Russian AA System

This Ukrainian drone footage shows a “Buk” anti-aircraft missile launcher being destroyed by a HIMARS strike. The resulting explosion from the on-board missiles’ components scatters debris far and wide in an impressive display.

The “Buk” family of air defense systems refers to self-propelled, medium range AA systems, first utililized in 1972. They operate above the TOR system shown here also getting deleted by HIMARS. Given a shortage of artillery overall, it makes economic sense for Ukraine to remove high-value pieces like this from the board, in order to do more with smaller munitions, drones, and aircraft that might otherwise be intercepted by the Buk. By smiting this AA system with the HIMARS, Ukraine puts the word out to Russia: Knuck if you Buk.
