Multiple angles of a gun battle and brazen kidnapping were recorded at a restaurant and shopping plaza in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico on Feb. 8, 2021, and at least three people (including one police officer) were reportedly injured.

Security footage from inside the restaurant shows gunmen entering and violently combing through the patrons until they find their intended target. Other clips filmed by nearby witnesses show additional gunmen pulling security on the street, ensuring they have a clear getaway. At one point, the militants can be seen throwing an unconscious man into the bed of a pickup and they all make an escape.

The Mexican state of Jalisco has seen a ruthless turf war between the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) and ‘Los Chapitos’ Guzman, the sons of drug lord El ‘Chapo’ Guzman. The various security forces operating in the area are stuck in the middle and are often tempted by corruption. There were nearly 250 murders in Jalisco in January 2021.
