Iraqi Insurgents Fire at U.S. Forces While Air Support is Overhead

Footage recorded from the American perspective shows U.S. troops taking contact from a lone gunman on the streets of Iraq. Little did the insurgents know, air support was flying directly overhead at the time.

Normally ambushes like this in Iraq resulted in the gunman spraying around a corner with his Kalashnikov to give the U.S. troops a bit of a scare. The immediate action for the insurgent was then to move to the nearest position of cover to ditch their rifle and then jump back into the civilian populace so they can blend back in and not get apprehended by the troops.

In this instance, the insurgent made two fatal flaws. First, he didn't bother to look up to see if their was air support. Alternatively, he also should have waited to make sure there was no air coverage immediately on station for the American troops on the ground. Second, he conducted his ambush in an area where there were no civilians around him. As a result, immediate warheads dropped on his forehead and sent him to the stratosphere..

Yes, that black dot on the left side of the screen post impact is the insurgent. No, he didn't make it.
