After an eleven hour stand off that took place on April 12, 2021 into April 13, 2021, SWAT officers from the San Diego Police Department executed a successful operation on what was later identified as a hostage situation. The suspect, 36-year-old Christopher Templo Marquez was wanted on two aggravated encounters with law enforcement that had taken place earlier in the month.
In the three segment video, we are provided with multiple perspectives of the eleven hour chase and hostage situation. The first segment provided displays the aerial chase San Diego officers participated in after attempting a traffic stop on Marquez. Marquez and his accomplice, 33-year-old Janeth Iriate can be seen fleeing in a car, attempting to elude police. As the car came to a halt in the San Diego High School parking lot, the two began fleeing on foot. Marquez, exited the vehicle armed with a rifle, where officers then began considering this a hostage situation. After a few minutes of running on foot, the two crawled into a dumpster in an attempt to hide, but were caught by aerial surveillance.
The second segment of the footage is the evaluation perspective from the responding SWAT officers. The multiple body worn cameras provide us with the communication and strategies SWAT officers apply while evaluating a play-by-play analysis of the ongoing situation. This segment also provides us with the single shot fired into Marquez.
The third and last segment provides us with the ground perspective after the lethal shot was taken on Marquez. As the SWAT officers approach then dumpster, Iriate was pulled out unharmed. As for Marquez, he was pronounced deceased on the scene.
