IDF Soldier Made of Adamantine Survives Gnarly Headshot

Newly released footage from Hezbollah captures the moment a Palestinian sniper scores a gnarly headshot on a member of the Israeli Defense Force. The IDF Soldier survived with light injuries.

If I didn't read the news story myself, I wouldn't believe that there's anyway that this guy survived. The headshot smashed him directly in the forehead, and you can actually see pieces of the helmet flying away from the back of his head. When I first looked at this, I thought it was just grizzly Palestinian murder porn, but upon further inspection I realized just how lucky this guy was.

Here's the thing about helmets. No one is currently being issued helmets that can stop rifle caliber rounds. There are up-armor solutions that exist, and as far as I know, right now, Ops-Core is the only company in the world making a truly rifle rated helmet. Those run about $4,000 a pop, so they're only being issued on a case-by-case basis. Most regular combat helmets are rated to stop pistol caliber rounds. It's the geometry of the helmet that can actually save the guy wearing the helmet, and that's what we're seeing here.

Shortly after this video was filmed, the IDF Soldier who was shot was transported to Beerhsheba’s Soroka Medical Center where he was treated for a minor cut on the top of his head, and a slight concussion. He was discharged that same day. This video was filmed in January of 2019.
