Helmet Cam: Russian Convoy Ambushed - Dismounting in the Killzone

The lead vehicle of a Russian convoy finds themselves in the killzone of a Ukrainian ambush. Instead of fighting through the ambush, they dismount in the killzone and return fire.

Recently released video from the helmet mounted camera of a Russian Soldier shows an ambush that allegedly occurred near Pologi. I can't tell if the Russians have weird standard operating procedures, a serious lack of training, or if they're just absolutely psychotic. Based on this video alone, I'm kind of leaning towards it being a little bit of all three.

Regardless, if you ever want to see exactly how not to react to a near-peer ambush in a conflict where both sides are equally armed, this is the video for you.

You do not immediately stop when you are ambushed, and if you're in vehicles, you do not immediately dismount and leave the door to your armored vehicles open. Leave the doors open makes a gigantic gap in the armor where enemy fire can hit you or the people still inside, and dismounting in the killzone is an insanely fast way to find yourself on the wrong end of a 9-line medevac.

If you're ever in an ambush, do the opposite of these. Drive towards the contact with your machine guns rocking and rolling on the cyclic rate of fire. Establish fire superiority and total dominance and maneuver directly into the contact. You'll be doing the exact opposite of what the enemy wants you to do. You're also in an armored vehicle, you stand a much better chance of surviving a rocket attack inside of it than you do on the outside of it where the machine gun and sniper rounds are flying.
