Helmet Cam: DPR Forces Maneuver POWs Under Artillery Fire

A noncommissioned officer from the DPR's Somalia Battalion shows excellent control of the situation as he evacuates Ukrainian POWs under artillery fire near Pisky, Ukraine.

The Somalia Battalion is also known as the 1st Separate Tank Battalion Somalia. The unit took the name Somalia in 2014 when the unit was formed as a separatist group in the Donbas War. They chose Somalia allegedly due to the bravery of Somali fighters in the unit during that time period. Today, they're one of the most experienced fighting units from the Donetsk People's Republic, having participated in combat operations from 2014 until today, including the Battle of Mariupol.

This video, which was released through official Russian channels that really love watermarks, was taken from a noncommissioned officer's helmet mounted camera. Regardless of what you want to say about the Russian side in all this fighting, it's clear that the DPR NCO wearing the helmet camera in this video has a strong understanding of how to lead troops in combat, which does lend some credence to the fighting capability of the Somalia Battalion. In fact, I'd wager the NCO seen in this video has better control of his small unit than most of the Russian units we've seen throughout the conflict so far.
