Hasakah Prison Riots Conclude as Last Islamic State Fighters Surrender

Published Jan. 30, 2022

Footage released by the YPG Press Office captures the moment the last Islamic State Fighters surrender. Among them is the group's leader, Abu Muhammad al-Urduni.

After almost a full week of fighting, it seems that the riots at the Hasakah Prison complex in Syria have come to an end. Footage recently released by the YPG Press Office shows the final Islamic State fighters surrendering, including the group's leader Abu Muhammad al-Urduni. Towards the end of the footage released by the YPG Press Office, members of the SDF can be seen celebrating their victory.

It is worth noting however, that at several points during the fighting the YPG claimed they had regained control of the prison, and that the Islamic State was defeated. Should the situation on the ground change, we'll continue to make updates. For now though, it appears as if the SDF has won the day, making this latest Islamic State operation a complete and total failure.
