Before the Marines stepped off from Camp Dwyer into Marjah, everyone and their mother stopped in to see them. The Battle for Marjah, also known as Operation Moshtarak, was the conclusion of a years long operation to root the Taliban out of the Helmand province. At the time, Marjah was the last known stronghold of Taliban presence in the province, and these are the Marines who went in and fought street by street to root them out.
