Phoenix police responded to multiple calls about an armed assault that escalated into a hostage situation on Jan. 9, 2021.

Various video angles show a man with a pistol assaulting a woman with a baby. The man then rips the baby from the woman's hands and runs out into traffic firing the gun at cars. A 911 phone call from the accosted mother claims that the armed suspect is her husband, 37-year-old Paul Bolden.

Police rapidly arrived on the scene and Bolden began firing in their direction. Officers even reported that Bolden pointed the gun at the baby. One officer engaged Bolden with a well-aimed single shot, dropping him.

The officer that took the shot then rushed Bolden and took positive control of the baby and retreated to relative safety. Bolden was later pronounced dead at the hospital, and the baby was treated for minor injuries and returned to the mother.
