On May 19, 2022, members of the Fresno Police Department responded to a 911 call about an armed individual in a woman's backyard that was in violation of a restraining order.

Above is the entire critical incident report from the Fresno Police Department on an officer involved shooting that occurred on May 19, 2022. During their response to the violation of a restraining order, the Fresno Police Department gave every opportunity for 27-year-old Austin Flores to surrender, as they were aware of the fact that he was possibly armed due to reports from dispatch who were talking with the man's mother over the phone.

While trying to maneuver around Flores to get a better angle, Flores pointed the firearm at one of the officers who was forced to respond with lethal force to protect his own life, and the life of other officers present on the scene.

After securing the scene, officers rendered life-saving aid to Mr. Flores until paramedics arrived on Scene. Flores was then transported to a nearby medical facility where he was later pronounced dead. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the firearm Flores had aimed at the officer was a non-functioning replica.
