FAIL: POG Mangles Hands Dropping Mortar Round

Published June 14, 2022

This is what it looks like when "I'm basically infantry" types attempt to actually infantry. Video shows a soldier dropping a mortar round and then leaving his hands over the tube as the system fires.

The video shows a 101st Airborne live fire range for 81mm mortar systems. Occasionally at these ranges, when the main training objectives are met, the 11C (infantry mortarmen) will allow non mortar types to drop rounds.

Judging by the "main character's" obscure patch and mismatched uniform, his irrelevance to the actual military cannot be overstated. This man has no business doing what he is about to do, and he pays a painful price.

Sure, this soldier is not a trained mortarman, but there is nothing technical about dropping mortar rounds. It's a two-step process of common sense. 1. Drop round 2. Remove your hands from the flight path...50% is a failing grade.

Reportedly, this soldier needed some of his fingers sewn back together as the mortar round's sharp tail fins sliced through them.
