Expert Camouflage Demonstrated By Ukrainian Mortarmen

A Ukrainian mortar team demonstrates ingenuity and resourcefulness by creating a contraption to conceal their firing position.

The problem with hiding a mortar position is that the gun needs to be clear of 'mask' and have overhead clearance, as the rounds are shot upward to achieve their high angle trajectory, essentially exposing the position to any overhead reconnaissance system.

These mortarmen have used readily available foliage to make a trap door type blind cover on a pulley system that allows them to briefly expose the mortar pit to fire a round and then quickly be covered again.

While enemy counter mortar radars can still detect the round in flight and estimate its point of origin, the concealment system likely inhibits the effectiveness of commonly used quadcopter drones.
