Video shows an aerial target drone being tracked and destroyed by what appears to be an SA-8 Gecko 9K33 OSA air defense system. The footage from the drone allows the viewer to see the entire flight path of the incoming missile.

The missile doesn't make physical contact with the drone, but explodes in close proximity, disabling the UAV and sending it tumbling to the ground. Drones of varying purpose and capability have become a staple on the battlefield, but the tools to counter them are lagging behind.

While air defense missiles cost tens of thousands of dollars a piece, it may seem like overkill to be used on an $800 dollar recreational drone. However, the realtime intelligence the cheap drone is able to relay is priceless, and no expense should be spared to rapidly destroy such an enemy asset.
