Deputy Shot In Drive by Fashion By Suspicious Suspect At Construction Site

A critical incident released by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, shows the moments three officers engaged in a shootout with 48-year-old Oscar Rene Martinez Munoz after he attempted fleeing the scene of a crime.

On November 15th, 2021, deputies arrived at a construction site located at 300 Hammett St. to investigate a suspicious vehicle they spotted during a routine foot patrol. As shown in the body camera footage, as deputies approached the parked truck, Munoz suddenly began moving his vehicle forward. Deputies continuously commanded Munoz to stop the vehicle; however he continued ignoring their commands.

As Munoz circled the parking lot, avoiding deputy confrontation, he eventually pulled a .38-caliber pistol and shot at one deputy, striking him. In response, all-three deputies returned fire but did not successfully neutralize Munoz. Reports have indicated, as Munoz left the scene, he continued firing shots at the deputies who were now rendering medical aid to their injured partner.

Additional responding deputies located Munoz only a short distance from the crime scene, where they immediately placed him in custody. Munoz charges are still pending, according to online court records.
