Compilation of Russian Troops Using AS VAL/VSS Integrally Suppressed Rifles

This compilation of videos is from the Russian perspective, featuring some of their soldiers using the distinctive AS VAL and/or VSS Vintorez rifles. Although these iconic weapons are thought of as a Spetznaz hallmark, many units across the Russian service branches utilize the weapons. However, they are still a comparative rarity.

Both weapons are integrally suppressed rifles which utilize subsonic 9x39 mm rounds. VSS, or Vintorez, refers specifically to the scoped, sniper weapon whereas the VAL is a more generalized assault rifle most frequently used with iron sights. Both were adopted for use in 1987, and intended to replace general-purpose rifles that were suppressed after the fact. In other words, the VAL and Vintorez were purpose-built with clandestine or stealthy operations in mind. While Russia is naturally the primary user, other countries such as India and Belarus also field the weapons with SF units. This is also reportedly true of Ukraine's SBU.
