Multiple rotary wing platforms can be seen firing unguided munitions at their maximum effective range towards Russian positions from the cockpit of a Ukrainian Mi-17.

We have already spoken at length about the need for both Ukrainian and Russian forces to safeguard their aircraft. The conflict in Ukraine is one of the least air-friendly wars in the history of mankind. Both sides are well equipped with anti-aircraft weapon systems, which makes air dominance an actual impossibility for either side.

As a result, close air support is not an option. What we get instead is aircraft operating from inside of controlled territory lobbing unguided munitions at their maximum effective range towards the enemies lines. I would say this is probably not a hyper effective technique, but the fact that we're seeing resources expended on operations like this from both sides indicates that they must both be having some success with the technique.
