This footage, made available by Ukraine’s Directorate of Intelligence (HUR/GUR), shows members of an International unit under their control as they defend Chasiv Yar from Russian assaults. They’re shown shooting at Russian drones and personnel, as well as navigating trenches and defensive positions.

Troops that fall under the auspices of HUR/GUR frequently have their identities concealed, as shown here. Being Ukraine’s intelligence service, HUR/GUR-run units are often involved in clandestine activities against Russian assets both on and behind the lines, as well as worldwide, having been reported in Syria and Sudan. This footage shows an international element on defense, protecting Chasiv Yar. The concept and implications of a contingent of foreign nationals answering to Ukraine’s equivalent of the CIA are interesting, if not altogether surprising.
