Car Jacker Runs Over Houston Officer Seconds Before Being Gunned Down (NSFW)

On September 1st, 2021, deputies from the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office engaged in a high-speed chase with a man in a stolen car. At approximately 9:30 p.m., Harris County deputies requested further assistance from Houston Police Department (HPD). As shown in the footage, over a half-dozen HPD units and Harris County deputies responded to the chase.

After a lengthy chase, HPD officers were able to end the pursuit after the suspect, later identified as Omar Hernandez Lazano, entered the driveway of a home located on the 1200 block of Mitchell. In a desperate attempt to flee, Lazano slammed his vehicle into the home. Taking advantage of the opportunity, HPD officers and Harris County deputies approached the vehicle and attempted to apprehend the man but were unsuccessful. Still desperate for an escape, Lazano floored the gas pedal, where he accelerated the stolen vehicle toward multiple HPD officers and Harris County deputies.

Unfortunately for one deputy, he was caught in the open and struck by Lazano's vehicle. As a result, multiple Harris County deputies and one HPD officer discharged their service weapons, striking Lazano multiple times, finally subduing him. Paramedics later arrived on the scene and pronounced Lazano deceased.

The deputy who was run over was transported via Life Flight to an area hospital. As of September 30th, he was known to be in stable condition and being treated for his injuries at a long-term recovery facility. The officer-involved shooting remains under investigation by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
