C-130 Crashes In Philippines, 45 Soldiers Dead

At least 45 Filipinos have died after a C-130 military transport aircraft missed the runway during a landing on Jolo Island in Sulu province on Jul. 4, 2021.

The incident is being called the Philippine's worst military air disaster as 42 of those killed were troops on board and three civilians perished on the ground. It is being that 49 troops survived the crash by jumping off the aircraft prior to the fiery crash. Additional reports say only five of those aboard are as of yet unaccounted for.

The destroyed aircraft was one of two C-130 Hercules aircraft delivered to the Philippines military by the US earlier this year. The troops were landing on Jolo for a combat mission to rout out Muslim extremists, and many of those troops had just completed basic training.
