Bodyguard Kicks Explosive To Save Japanese Prime Minister

Cameras were rolling as an assassination attempt was made on Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida while he was campaigning at the Saikazaki fishing port in Wakayamaon April 15, 2023.

The would-be assassin threw a pipe-bomb type device toward the feet of the prime minister, but a member of the Japanese leader's security detail sprang into action. The bodyguard can be seen stopping the incoming device with his "briefcase" and then kicking the device away.

He then covers the prime minister's body with his own body and starts pushing him to safety while also deploying a ballistic shield which had been disguised as his briefcase.

The device ended up malfunctioning and only produced smoke instead of an explosion, but the bodyguard demonstrated his worth and commitment to duty.
