Anti-Junta Forces Commit To Ten-Day Battle in Sagaing, Myanmar

This compilation of footage shows the Kachin Independence Army and local People's Defense Force fighters attacking the town of Kani, in the Sagaing region of Myanmar. The town is under the control of Myanmar's military junta, whose rule is opposed by several factions throughout Myanmar.

The attack on Kani spanned from 02 March to 12 March, and despite fierce fighting and the smiling faces seen here, it culminated in a victory for the Junta forces, who were able to push back the attacking forces with airstrikes. The anti-Junta units had no answer to or counter for the Junta's air superiority.

The battle for Kani, as shown here, is unusual in two main ways. Firstly, while the Kachin Independence Army (also known by the unfortunate acronym KIA) can and does press multi-day, committed offensives, this behavior is somewhat more rare for People's Defense Force units, which are more given to guerilla actions and ambushes. Secondly, it is rare for anti-Junta forces to share footage from negative-outcome operations, which is only natural given that morale is a precious commodity.
