Akron Police Pursue and Shoot Woman Responsible for Bar Shooting

Body worn camera footage has been released by the Akron Police Department showing the pursuit and shooting of a woman responsible for fatally shooting another woman in the bathroom of a local bar.

After responding to a 9-1-1 call where a woman had fatally shot another woman at the Oasis Surf and Turf bar on July 29, officers were flagged down by an individual who was following the suspect. After flagging off the bystander, who warned police that the woman was armed with a handgun, the police began foot pursuit. They cornered the woman at a parking lot where the contacting officer began giving her orders to show him her hands.

The woman then raises her right hand as if she's getting ready to shoot a handgun, and the 2-year-veteran of the Akron Police Department discharged his duty weapon multiple times striking the woman twice. Upon clearing the woman to begin life-saving-aid, a handgun was spotted. The unidentified woman was then transported to a nearby medical facility where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

This incident is still under investigation. The officer who was involved is on paid administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
