Airstrike Obliterates Taliban Base In Kandahar (2021)

An airstrike reportedly filmed in the first two months of 2021 shows an Afghan Air Force precision strike on a Taliban base in the Panjwai district of Afghanistan's Kandahar province.

Despite ongoing peace talks and the drawdown of US troops to 2001 levels, Afghan government airstrikes (facilitated by the US) against Taliban targets have increased. As part of the ongoing peace process, the US has promised to reduce direct US military airstrikes on the Taliban, leaving the Afghan Air Force to pick up the slack.

Recent weeks have seen an escalation of fighting between the Taliban and Afghan security forces, at a time that would normally be considered the "winter lull." Additionally, the Taliban are concerned that President Biden will reverse Trump's withdrawal of US troops and have now began bolstering their numbers in disputed areas.
