Aggressive Man Immediately Becomes Compliant After Taser

Body worn camera footage from Lt. Jason Sharp of the Petersburg, Virginia police department captures the moment an aggressive subject immediately becomes compliant after being hit by the Taser twice.

On October 4, 2021, Lt. Jason Sharp and Petersburg Officer Jonai Jackson responded to a 9-1-1 call about an armed man roaming the streets. Upon arrival to the scene of the incident, officers were informed that the subject, William Antonio Scott, had a previous record of being violent towards law enforcement officers with two past convictions for felonies and a history of resisting arrest.

Upon making contact with Scott, the man immediately began walking towards Lt. Sharp demanding that he get off of his property. As Scott's aggression towards Sharp continued to escalate, Sharp made the decision to draw and discharge his Taser to bring Scott under control. After the second hit from the Taser, Scott immediately became complaint allowing the officers to make the arrest.

Following the incident, Lt. Jason Sharp was tried for two misdemeanor assault charges and one count of making false statements in a police report. Upon further review of the evidence, Sharp was found not-guilty on all counts with the judge ruling that Sharp’s use of his police-issued Taser on William Antonio Scott was “reasonable and appropriate” under the circumstances.
