Aftermath: Su-25 "Frogfoot" Hit By MANPADS And Returned To Base

The Russian Ministry of Defense released a video showing the damage that resulted from a MANPADS hit on an Su-25 Frogfoot close air support jet. The aircraft was able to return to base with only one operational engine.

We believe the damaged aircraft is the same one that was recorded being hit near Kherson on or around Feb. 26, 2022. That video is embedded below.

The anti air missile can actually be seen for a few frames before detonating. MANPADS work by exploding very near the aircraft rather than actually making direct impact. This allows the munition to launch a blanket of shrapnel at the aircraft.

The Su-25 is ruggedly built, and the cockpit is reinforced with armor. These video are a testament to their survivability. However, the damage sustained by the missile will most likely take this aircraft out of service indefinitely.
