40 MM Less-Than-Lethal Stops Machete-Wielding Suspect

This compilation of dispatch radio traffic and officer-worn body cameras depicts LAPD officers in confrontation with a machete-armed assault suspect. The officers use a 40-milimeter less-than-lethal round to neutralize the suspect without loss of life.

After a summary of the location of the incident and the radio traffic leading thereto, bodycam footage begins at 02:22 with an officer in the passenger seat of a cruiser. At 02:47, the green less-than-lethal launcher is visible in his hand. At 02:46, he exits the vehicle, making contact with the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Jacinta Johnson. Johnson stops and shows her hands at 03:01. However, Johnson refuses to go to her knees or prone. The suspect refers to herself as Marshall at 04:17, and claims to have been stabbed, which adds to the confusion. At 05: 06 Johnson/Marshall orders the officers to fire.

At 06:59, the suspect draws the machete and is hit by a 40mm, causing them to drop the weapon.

At 07:12, we see the remainder of the incident from the perspective of a partner officer, who takes the shot at 08:16. He performs a quick reload between 08:19 and 08:20. At 08:37, we see footage from the cruiser's dash-mounted camera. This allows a better view of the suspect's actions. "Marshall" is arrested without further incident.
