Explosions rocked two different Russian military airbases deep inside Russian on Dec. 5, 2022. The strikes of undetermined nature targeted strategic bomber airfields in the Ryazan and Saratov regions, both of which are several hundred kilometers from Ukraine. The airfields are home to Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bomber squadrons.

While Ukraine has yet to confirm their role in the blasts, a Ukrainian official tweeted, "If something is launched into another country's airspace, sooner or later unknown flying objects will return to departure point."

Russia responded to the attacks by launching a barrage of missiles at various targets across Ukraine. Although, the Ukrainian military claims to have shot most of them down.
